I'm now a believer...
By S. Phipps
When I think of inkjet printers... I normally think Canon or HP. My year old $30 Canon multifunction inkjet recently went "south" on me thanks to some super cheap "no name" refill ink clogging the head, so it was time to shop. I found the Brother J835DW on sale for a great price locally and read many excellent reviews from buyers, so I gave it a shot. I really don't associate printers with the Brother name... but now I'm a true believer! Setup was super easy and went exactly as the instructions indicated. Everything works perfectly via wireless and print quality is outstanding. The duplex print function is awesome to say the least. I always wanted an auto duplex printer, but never thought I'd find one for well under $100.

What really sold me on this printer is the relatively cheap ink cost. The J835DW uses 4 separate carts and when one runs low, you just replace it independently. You don't find this type of setup on many sub $100 printers. Also, these carts generally cost $15 or less at all the major retailers and each cart yields around 300 pages at 5% coverage. Very affordable compared to most other brands.

Another "plus" is that these printers do not use sophisticated cart chips or ink monitoring systems to discourage refill attempts. Refill carts are dirt cheap and the printhead is very forgiving running aftermarket ink... unlike Canon and HP. I just bought 10 high capacity refill carts for $10 shipped via a major online retailer. I am stocked on ink for years to come!

This printer is just an overall awesome deal especially when found on sale for under $100. Definitely don't let the Brother name scare you. They know what they are doing.

Excellent printer
By The Engineer
I have just received and installed this printer. I have had Epsons, and HP printers. My latest HP had a paper jam, and would not recover.

This unit is attractive, runs quietly, and was simple to install. I am using the wireless connection. For best results, download the latest driver and utility support package. It was more thorough than my install CD. With the CD, I did not have the PC-Fax working. With the download, everything went well.

This unit has so many features. It is impressive. I am using it as a home printer, but it is obviously capable of a serving a small business application. The duplex printing feature is great.

The front load ink cartridges are very easy to install, and you can buy replacement ones instead of OEM.

Brother also has a Brother Creative Center online, for creating holiday cards, etc. It works well. I used it to make a Halloween card to test the printer out. (If you make a foldable card, remember to set the printer for two sided printing.)

Hopefully this printer will last much longer than my last HP.

AMAZING, GREAT QUALITY, DOES EVERYTHING!
By PT
By far the best all in one printer out there and for the best price right here on amazon. It prints fast, and you can choose the quality every time when printing. If normal quality it takes about 10 seconds to print a page. If on best it takes about 15 to 20 seconds per page. In general that is really good for the amazing quality. The WiFi is my favorite feature. I can print from anywhere. I have tried all the features, faxing, scanning, printing, coping, they all work wonderful. The scanning shows up right on your computer. It also has black, magenta, yellow and blue ink cartridges and you can replace them individually rather than having to but a whole new color cartridge if you even though you may only need one color. That is extremely cost effective. Plus, I found a great deal for tons of ink cartridges. It is on amazon so here is the link, http://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Cartridge-Replacement-Brother-LC-75/dp/B0062S4B8Q/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pdT1_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1G8Y2RG4YEMRA&coliid=I3TWOLEM58UAG6
It is such a great price, I love it. This is by far the best printer on the market and is worth $100.

Good printer.
By Bruce Raskin
I have 2 SLP 450s. Needed another printer to use for printing stamps from Stamps.com. Unfortunately Stamps has not programmed their system for the new printer. Having said that, the 650 is a great upgrade from the 450. I will use it for my labels and the old one for stamps. The new one is much faster, and the new software is much easier to use.

Was without a label maker for a few weeks
By AnnieBjazz
When I gave up my desktop computer as part of consolidating when I moved, I lost my Seiko from years ago since it wouldn't function on my laptop with windows 7. Thought I could live without it for a while but it was driving me nuts so I ordered this one and am very glad I did. Use it all the time.

I bought these to use with a Hypercom T7Plus credit card terminal, and have had no complaints. Paper fits fine and prints neatly. No issues with paper jams or smeared receipts. I'd say it's a reasonable choice for any compatible terminal.

Big win!
By D. Gardner
I've had this printer for just a week and I'm amazed at the results. It was easy to set up and is easy to use. I took a look at "Real World Color Management," by Fraser, Murphy, and Bunting, before I started using the printer. It's a helpful book, even if you just skim a few of the early chapters. It helped me to understand the printer's advanced options and to get the results I wanted. You could just use the printer with the out of the box settings, and I suppose it would produce really nice results. I'm an artist, though, and I want to be in control. That's why I bought this printer, I was frustrated with unpredictable results from labs.

A note on ink:

I have been printing on glossy paper. At $18.99 per cartridge for ink (Epson website price, with free overnight shipping if you order at least three cartridges at a time), so far,

- my 8.5" x 11" prints are roughly $1.20 - $1.80 for ink

- my 13" x 19" are about $3.50 - $5.50 for ink

(Printing in "Photo" mode puts your costs at the low end of the ranges. Printing in "Photo RPM" mode costs about 40% - 50% more and puts you at the high end of the price ranges. I usually cannot distinguish between "Photo" and "Photo RPM" modes, so I almost always print in "Photo" mode. Occasionally, I notice banding or tones which do not appear smooth on very close inspection, then I switch to "Photo RPM.")

Warning: I believe ink use varies considerably with paper type. less ink for glossy, more ink for semi-gloss, and still more ink for matte and art paper. I'm not sure though.

I am printing on Inkpress Glossy paper (equivalent in weight, sheen, and brightness to Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper) which I ordered from B&H Photo. It's less expensive than Epson paper and looks spectacular.

In fact, I recently gave two 8x10's to a friend as a gift. She thought they looked wonderful and was astonished to learn that they were inkjet prints. She thought they must have been "professionally" printed at a lab. I was pretty flattered (credit to the printer, too, of course...) She also happens to be an artist and professional web designer, so she's got a fine eye.

---------------
Update:

I've used the printer some more. I'm still very pleased. However, I've looked closer at the Inkpress paper I mentioned above. From a distance, it looks great, but closer up, it has many problems. Almost every sheet is covered with fine scratches, and about half the sheets have at least one major defect (some as large as 1/8" in diameter) where the gloss coating did not cover the paper. The defects are like little potholes on the surface. At first, I thought I had caused these problems through poor handling. Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy has an absolutely flawless surface, though, and I have handled the prints the same way. I don't recommend the Inkpress paper.

works fine on my iMac but has some Black & white-panoramic problems
By Robert Cullers
I can highly recommend the Epson 1400 printer for its outstanding quality of prints with sizes up to 13 inches wide. It is the least costly of the 13 inch wide format printers especially with the rebate Epson offers. The inks are Claria high definition inks which work especially well on glossy paper with an estimated lifetime of up to 100 years. The Epson ink is very costly as usual, but some suppliers (e.g., Lyson, novachromeusa) are offering bulk ink cartridges one might try if you are willing to pay for the set-up cost.
There are several problems if you do panoramic prints or black and white prints. Panoramic prints are a bit tricky to print out since Epson only offers roll paper for panoramic prints, and there is no roller in which to place the roll paper. In additon, you will have to make a custom paper size for panoramics since Epson does not include this in the standard printer software. One can cut the Epson roll paper into individual sheets or purchase individual sheets of panoramic roll paper from other suppliers such as Red River Paper. You also could purchase instead the more expensive Epson R1800 printer which does have a place for the roll paper and the software includes a panoramic print mode. Also you may have trouble with black and white prints since the Epson 1400 leaves a color tinge in the prints unless you spend some time making some color adjustments to get neural black and white prints. Again the Epson R1800 made perfect black and white prints without such adjustments.

Don't buy this printer
By Frank Martelli
I purchased the 1400 in 2007. At first, it worked well. Then the problems started when it started to ask for new cartridges before the old ones were spent (I had hardly used it). I bought original Epson cartridges (which are VERY expensive, $120 the set) and the printer would still think the cartridges were empty (they were in fact new). After much haggling with Epson, they agreed to send me a refurbished one. Same story. It worked well for 3 months, until it asked for cartridge replacements. I was certain that the old ones still had ink, but I bought new (legitimate) cartridges again. The printer never recognized them and insisted they were empty. I called Epson again and they said that now my printer is out of warranty (which is counted from time of original purchase, never mind the refurbished one was sent only 3 months ago) and the only option they give me is to send it to a repair center (fully at my cost). They do NOT warranty the refurbished printer they sent me 3 months ago.
This has been a nightmare. I will refer Epson to the Better Business Bureau, and will look for class action lawsuits on this problem (I now know there have been in the past). I will have to throw away my 3 month old printer and buy a new one. One thing is for sure, it will not be an Epson.
I hope you do not have live through this. I wish someone had warned me about this before I bought this product. Take my advice: don't buy.

FAST DRAFT FAST DRAFT!!!!!!
By Edward Johnson III
I see that this product is not getting good reviews so I wanted to chime in. I am a medical student and I go through a lot paper and instinctively A LOT OF INK. I think that the ink problem has to do a lot with the printer itself. I have the HP officejet J4580 All-in-one and it is very good at saving a lot of ink. If you put your printer on fast draft you can get a lot of ink for your money. I am not suggesting you buy a new printer, but maybe putting your documents on fast draft might help you get a lot of pages. Also, if you are printing out pictures, you wont get a lot of paper for your ink. I print out a lot of word documents that have red and black and so far I am pretty happy at how INK 901 is doing on my printer. Hope this helps people. Remember, FAST DRAFT always.

Not a Fraud, But Not Legit Either
By Stephen Stough
Until Kodak came out with a printer that uses a very inexpensive cartridge, all the dot matrix printer manufacturers were able to get away with building and selling horrifically-complex, very high-priced ink cartridges because there was no alternative. As I understand it, the Kodak printer has very poor performance, so there is still no effective competition to the high-priced cartridge manufacturers. That implies that, until Kodak builds an adequate printer, you can complain about HP 901XL yielding far fewer pages than advertised, but your complaints have no effect because there is no competition.

Printing single-spaced text with normal margins, and 11 pt. type, I get about 300 pages out of a 901XL cartridge. Clearly, any claims of 700 pages per cartridge are based on an unrealistic estimation of the amount of ink laid down per page. That's unrealistic, not fraudulent. But, certainly deceptive by any reasonable definition thereof. It is this kind of abuse by an effective monopoly that infuriates the public, who will instantly switch to another brand once an alternative is available. HP is trashing any customer loyalty they once had.

901 and 901xl cartridges
By J. Whitehead
I have brought the 901 and the 901xl cartridges from Amazon several times because of the price. I have never gotten close to the number of pages each one claims to produce. I got excited when I saw the 901xl advertised, but I never got over half of the 700 pages it is advertised for. I feel that the company owes a refund for false advertisement. It will be cheaper for me to buy a new printer.

Stick with OEM supplies
By Landlord
As a former copier/MFD repair tech with 34 years of experience, I can say with confidence that the OEM product is ALWAYS superior to ANY aftermarket imaging supply item, no matter what the aftermarket product may claim. Just the act of disassembling a factory sealed toner unit will compromise its integrity if it is refilled and reused. There are moving parts inside a toner cartridge which can wear out if it is reused beyond it's designed lifespan, causing toner leakage or poor image quality. Additionally, the toner used in "compatible" copier supplies is often contaminated with moisture or other impurities that cause it to clog up. Aftermarket toner may also pose a health risk, because it may not meet the same safety standards as the original, due to using poorer quality chemical components, or different formulations.

Cartridge is worthless
By kevin garry
I put off replacing the cartridge in my HP Laserjet 1000 for many months. I was tempted to get a remanufactured/reconditioned one since I had used them at work before with no real problem.

Then I recalled the problems I had a few years back using "compatible" cartridges for my Canon inkjet. Because of these off-brand cartridges, I ended up having to spend a chunk of money to replace the whole print head. (Back before print heads were integrated into ink cartridges, they were built better and would last a really, really long time - meaning consumers could refill their own ink cartridges as many times as they liked.)

So, I decided to go with a brand new HP cartridge. After shopping around a bit, I ordered one - via Amazon - from Laser & Copy Supply. It arrived on time and the packaging was fine.

I ripped off the thin strip of cardboard that seals every HP toner box, took the cartridge out of the sealed black plastic bag, then installed it. When I ran a test page, I had serious ghosting (image repeated further down the page) and major black splotches, especially on the top half of the page.

I checked online and read that this problem may result from a bad Primary Charge Roller. Apparently this is not uncommon when buying remanufactured cartridges. However, I ordered what was supposedly a brand new HP cartridge!

If I had checked out the bottom of the box the cartridge came in, I would've known to be suspicious. The cardboard has been seriously torn on both sides and then obviously re-glued.

When I called the Laser & Copy Supply, I got a voice menu. I pressed "0" for operator, and the second I uttered the phrase "toner cartridge", I was transferred to someone's voicemail. This is not the access I expect to have to an Amazon seller when I call at 3:00 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.

The problem is not with my printer. The old cartridge still works fine except the output is a little faint in places. The problem is this new cartridge. It is a complete FAIL.

Now I wish I'd paid the extra $20 and gotten one from Staples, Office Max, or some vendor who has proved reliable in the past.

If I get a response from the vendor, I will update this review.

----------------

UPDATE:

After leaving two messages with the vendor, I got a callback. I explained the cartridge did not work properly, and pointed out its carton had been torn in several places and seemed to have been reglued. (Later, on a new HP cartridge purchased from my local office supply store, I noticed there was a black plastic tab on the end of the foil strip that gets yanked out of the cartridge before installation. This was missing on the cartridge I bought via Amazon; there was just the foil strip).

"Jacob" was properly contrite on behalf of the Laser & Copy Supply, and offered me either a replacement or a full refund. I chose the latter and he said he was submitting it right then. The credit appeared on my account in short order. When I asked if he wanted me to return the cartridge, he said, "Not if it's like you say it is."

So, though disappointed the cartridge didn't work for me, I appreciated not having to repackage (and pay postage) to send the defective cartridge back, and the fact that my refund came through without delay.

Weak product
By Gcleve
Purchased 4 cartridges. First one opened did not work and has a racheting sound when it is in a machine. The other three did not go into the printer easily but finally were useable. Life of the thre cartridges was shorter than OEM cartridges. One is totally defective but we do not know where to send it.

Bait and switch
By George Koulomzin
I ordered a C7115X. I got a C7115A. Guess what - the "A" version has a significantly lower print capacity than the "X" version, and hence is much cheaper, although it looks very much the same. Sounds like a bait and switch to me!

black ink- ohhh ahhhh
By Mark Spicer
I hate OEM inks. Even these super savers are ridiculously expensive for what they are. Here we have some black ink. It comes out black. It doesn't last long enough, but none of them do. It's less expensive than other brands, but still WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced! It's not particularly dark, and it isn't immune to clogging if it's not used frequently, but it is better than the knock off brands you can buy for 1/3rd the price and then deal with the frustration of constant clogs and going through 10 cleaning cycles in order to use them. Printer ink is a necessary evil if you want to print your own photos. If you just need color prints get rid of your inkjet and get a color laser (research cost per print before you buy). If you just need black and white- man forget this nonsense and get a old brother laser with $10 toner that lasts 5000 prints and prints at great quality and hyper speed. If you're using this in an office environment that gets a lot of use- you're in the wrong place and you need someone who knows more than you to help you find the right place. There must be a special place in the afterlife where we all get to flog the OEM ink cartridge manufacturers for the evil pricing schemes. Good luck everyone.

This replacement cartridge did the job well at replacing the empty cartridge. It was easy to install and the quality of the printing has not suffered since installing it.

Great little laser printer so far
By Mary Raugh
I bought this printer on sale at another website the week before last. I settled on this one for three reasons:

It was very reasonably priced, especially for a color laser. The Amazon price is very good too.

The toner cartridges have about the same consumption rate as the ones for my HP color laser but cost less. (My only gripes with them so far is that my normal office supply dealer doesn't carry them and they don't seem to be readily available off-the-shelf at the major office supply chains.)

At 24 pounds, the printer weights just a little more than half my HP laserjet. It's also got a nice, small footprint, so it doesn't need a lot of space. Compared to most other laser printers, I'd go ahead and say this thing is as close to portable as you're likely to get.

The weight was actually my main concern. I run a dealer's table at several science fiction conventions and do a lot of printing on the road. Since I also have a seriously screwed-up back, it was past time to get something I could lift in and out of my car easily AND would still be as cost-effective to operate as the 45-pound HP behemoth I've been dragging around.

So far, the Xerox is doing well on all counts. The print quality is slightly better than my HP on photographs, about the same on text.

It came out of the box in perfect condition. Setting up was easy, but Windows Vista does not have drivers for it. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the same is true of Windows 7, though the printer is compatible with both operating systems. (If you're a Linux user, this printer will also work for you. Assuming you can believe what it says on the box, anyway.) The printer comes with the drivers on a CD, though - no worries there. Found it interesting that you have the option with this printer of going through your computer's USB port or ethernet connection. I did the USB connection, but it's always nice to have options.

So far I've had no trouble with jamming or anything else, but I haven't run anything but regular paper through it so far.

I'll revisit and update this review after I've used it a bit more and it's gone on its first road trip.

Additional comments, 7/30/2012

Just spent the weekend putting this printer through its paces. I'm still very keen on it, but there are a couple of things to be aware of.

First, it really is impossible to get the cartridges off the shelf, although I suppose a Xerox dealer might have them. From what I've been told, Xerox is just a bit weird about letting other people sell their cartridges for them.

Second, this printer doesn't have a whole lot of memory so big documents could be a problem. I sometimes have Word documents of about 25mb (lost of graphics) and this printer will not handle them all at once. I've found a couple of ways to get around this, but since these big documents are one of the things I need this printer to do I was a bit disappointed.

Otherwise, I stand by the five stars I gave it to begin with. The print quality is excellent, and this thing prints a lot faster than the laser printer it's replacing. I've tried out the manual duplexing and it works great. Both of which features outweigh the slight difficulty presented by the lack of memory.

A speedy, reliable printer with excellent output
By Brian_San_Francisco
This is an excellent color printer for personal and small office use.

I purchased the 6010 with Ethernet, plugged it into the wireless router in my network, loaded it up with paper (toner was pre-installed) and booted up my Mac.

My Mac immediately recognized the printer, installed the driver, and I was off to the races.

My first color printed page popped out quickly, with crisp text and good quality graphics.

Since then, the printer has been a reliable workhorse for everything I've needed. It works well with a variety of stock from 20 pound "daily paper" to heavier Hammermill 60 pound Color Copy Digital Cover. Every printout has been clean and fast, setup was quick and flawless, the printer consumes little power (and wakes up nearly instantly from "power save" mode), and whenever I need a printout, I just hit "print." It's exactly as a personal color printer should be. The low price and the quality construction are just nice bonuses.

when it worked it was good......
By Gillian A. Bigg
If I could give this negative stars I would. It was just fine initially, but it had a mechanical issue and needed some warranty work. No big issue there sometimes things fail. However this has now sat in a Xerox official warranty repair shop for two months, as Xerox has completely failed to support the product as there are NO repeat NO repair parts available.

Xerox should be ashamed of their performance. I have to replace a full function office printer and install an office colour laser printer in the next month. Guess which manufacturer is not in the running.......

Steer well clear, at all costs.

An oversized cartridge for people with over-sized needs
By J. Fujino
With 18mL it should print out about 750 pages. I have no idea if the numbers I had quoted to me, though, are right. The problem is the little bar that appears whenever you print something hasn't even gone down 25% and I've had this cartridge for almost two months. Its definitely a real wallet saver for me since I'm a student in college and the nearest store selling cartridges is as far away as the nearest cartridge world, which I personally love but haven't gotten to see a lot of recently. Both would've required bus commutes, but the 74XL (which is noticeably sticks out farther than the regular 74 and weighs a whole lot more) has not failed me yet. For now I would encourage anyone lucky enough to have a printer that works with an 18mL cartridge like this to get one. And anyone in the market for a new printer should seriously consider checking to make sure there's isn't only compatible with a dinky 5mL one that will get you around 200 pages before going poof.

quantity and price - a win!
By CLG
As I mentioned for the HP 75XL inkjet cartridge is the same for this one (black ink only) - get the larger size AND HP brand inks for better quality and to allow for quantity printing. The smaller cartridges just don't cut it in terms of the number of pages it can print before running out. And save by buying it through Amazon, unless you can find a local retailer with better savings - I sure couldn't and am glad I checked with Amazon right away.

Does not work!!!
By JOSEPH DEROSA
I have an HP Photosmart C4480 all-in-one printer. I've used it for years and have had absolutely no problem with ink cartridges - until now. With this "HP" 74xl from Vivamart I managed to coax one page through, but it took a couple of false starts and several pauses. After that one page, the printer stopped recognizing the cartridge all together. I put back a REAL HP cartridge and it worked perfectly. I'm surprised HP allows their logo to be used in the picture on Amazon, and if they don't allow it, I'm surprised Amazon is allowing it! If you want to try it, be prepared for the hassle of a return.

Apparently it's not possible to give no stars, so I had to give one. The product doesn't deserve it.

Update: In an effort to read other reviews on this item, I tried, but failed, to find one sold by Vivamart, the Amazon vendor from which I purchased mine. It appears you can order what looks like an HP product, but may actually be from any number of non-HP vendors. If this is true, the reviews could be from many different products, rendering them useless. I would like Amazon to explain this. I'm loath to order this type of item from Amazon now.

BTW: The cartridge itself is labeled "Remanufactured Inkjet Cartridge". It does not include "HP", but only "74xl". In case I wasn't clear above, my intention was to buy a new HP cartridge, and the Amazon page gave no indication that it was anything otherwise.

Lasts Longer than the 750 pages it states by HP and is Waterproof
By thegreatshoppingplace
I love this ink because the colors are vibrant and also waterproof, which I have tested (not on purpose). The color and even the black last about 1,000-1,100 pages, where for the standard ones, not the XL, it states they last 750 pages. They are so easy to install and if you have an HP printer, you so have to get the HP brand ink, because I once went and bought the generic cheaper non HP branded ink and even the black looked grey and the color cartridges were not vibrant, or waterproof and they only lasted about 450 pages, so I would recommend this cartridge and any of the HP branded ink. I use this on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Mufti-function printer and it just works so great.

not a brand new Samsung Cartridge

I spent $65 to buy the Samsung Cartridge. It turned out this is a rebuilt Samsung Cartridge. The box is a real Samsung box. But the cartridge was a rebuilt Samsung cartridge. I sure can get a rebuilt Samsung cartridge for about $30. This is a misleading product. Be careful!

NOT a Samsung product

This cartridge has been working just fine for us, but you should know that in spite of the picture of a Samsung box, this is NOT a Samsung brand product. The only place the box or the cartridge mention Samsung is for stating compatibility. I feel I was mislead.

Good basic OEM toner
By The Fox
This is real, OEM, original toner for your Samsung ML-2010 laser printer. I was reluctant to use remanufactured or generic toner with my printer. If you are willing to roll the dice, you might be able to save a little money that way.

Remember than the toner package/drum that came with your printer was a 1000-page deal. This one is 3000-pages. PLEASE factor that in when you hear the "buy a new printer and get the ink for free"! It doesn't work that way - inkjets do the same thing! I figured this comes out to 2.3 cents per page. Even if you buy the printer for $50, the cost per page is 5 cents per page with the included toner.

Enough of my rant. Do the cost-per-page. This toner has worked fully up to my expectations.

Excellent Printer... Needs a Driver Update!
By Christopher
I love this printer, I bought it on sale over the weekend for under $100 (couldn't resist a laser printer at that price!). I probably printed about 700 pages this weekend, one of the perks of being a Grad student I suppose.

The Positives
-Prints quickly and great font quality
-The printer is SMALL, smaller than my injet.
-Works great with XP and Vista (sorry, No Mac to test on)

The Con
-This printer won't work with my wireless print server. The reason given is that the driver doesn't support it at this time. My workaround for the time being is to share the printer from the desktop in my office since I do most of my printing from my laptop in another room.

Hopefully that driver or a firmware upgrade to the print server (whichever comes first) comes out soon! Otherwise this is an incredible laser printer for the price!

On a side note, many people in discussion forums have complained about the high cost per sheet for a laser printer (about 4 cents a page), it is still far lower than any inkjet AND the printer just came out, as far as I've seen, Laser cartridges (at least here on Amazon) tend to fall in price by a few dollars after the product has been out for 6 or more months. I don't see this changing for this printer as well.

HP should be ashamed
By J. A. Cencioso
This printer shares a similar footprint with the Laserjet 1012 and 1022. Do not be fooled! It only has a half size (relative to the others with its form factor) toner cartridge, which costs exactly the same (effectively doubling your cost per page). There are issues where the printer will not print from Microsoft Office on the Mac (but those are are driver issues which will be eventually resolved). I hate feeling cheated, and I am very displeased that HP discontinued the other (full-size toner) printer line without telling the consumer they were getting only half as much for effectively the same price. Find a Laserjet 1012 or a 1022, if you still can, and let HP know that selling half as much value, in a full value size package, for a full value size price is not acceptable.

Much faster than I expected
By R. Shecter
I'm very happy with the printer so far - it's actually exceeded my expectations. I bought it one week ago to use for occasional but very important printing - I'm in law school, and when I need something printed, I need it NOW. :-)

I've used many printers in the past and always had good experiences with HPs. I also currently own the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Printer (Q7822A#ABA) which is a $400 color laser (which has been excellent). Finally, HP is an American company, so I was specifically looking for an inexpensive HP laser printer when I bought this. I realize that I could have gone with a Brother laser for around $100 or so, but I need absolute reliability - no compromises whatsoever.

The bottom line is that it met all my expectations - small, quiet and great B&W output for documents. I don't print much graphics, so I can't comment on that aspect. By the way, I'm using it with a new MacBook Pro, and there have been no problems.

The printer exceeded my expectation with respect to the speed. It seems to print very fast - nearly as fast as a larger office HP. Just my subjective impression - I haven't timed it with a stop watch.

The only possible negative is that I didn't find an instruction manual included. Not even on the CD-ROM. It may be that I overlooked it because I was in a rush to get going. But HP has an excellent support website where one can download drivers and manuals for all models, even very old ones. Further, the set up and install of the printer has been just like every other HP printer I've used.

I use this printer in my courier business to print the dispatch tickets after an order for a delivery is created. It prints the tickets fast and without errors.

Some difficulty trying to get drivers for Windows 7 and our Windows 2008 Server, but once those were sorted out, all is great.

A noticeable increase in print speed over the TM-T88III
By Lance Levine
This thing is like twice as fast as the TM-T88III. I needed an extra one to lug around to conventions and I wasn't expecting the difference to be so noticeable. In my particular case, I had it hooked up to a Remote Desktop over a VPN so it would take like 15 seconds for the job to reach the printer and then it looked like the paper just shot out of there like a cannon.

Great Printer

Super Fast...... Easy to connect and set up.....The thermal paper print quality is great.....but it slightly waste a bit of paper at the top of the receipt.... thus the 4 stars not 5

Genuine Canon Ink and Paper - what a deal!
By F. D. Gillett
Canon makes excellent ink and photo paper so this ink/paper combo is almost the best of two worlds, quality and economy. I've never had any negative issues with either Canon inks or photo paper so I have no negative comments about them. I made a costly error a number of years ago by using non-OEM ink to save a buck. Saving a buck on ink cost me a printer which gummed up and quit working due to poor quality ink. Lesson learned, stick with Canon OEM ink for your Canon printer.

Why did I say this combo was "almost" the best of two worlds? What you receive with this combo are CLI-221 tanks in cyan, magenta, & yellow and the PGI 220 black tank as well as 50 sheets of Canon glossy photo paper. You DO NOT get the CLI 221 black ink which is required for the MP-560 and some other Canon printers. I didn't read as thoroughly as I should have and thought I was getting all four CLI 221 tanks. My MP 560 requires both the pigment-based and dye-based black ink cartridges (pigment for text and dye for photo printing). As I said, it was totally my fault for not reading thoroughly but I do wonder how many others may have made the same mistake. It's an easy fix, just order a CLI 221 black tank.

Regardless of my error, it is still an excellent value for which you get Canon quality for ink and paper.

It is not a real COMBO PACK
By Helio Capeluto
This Combo Pack doesn't come with the CLI-221 black cartridge. If you don't pay attention to it, you buy presuming it is complete.
This review is an alert. If you want a complete set of cartidges, you have to buy with this COMBO an extra CLI-221 black cartidge.

Doesn't include CLI-221 BLACK
By Cathy
Great deal, but it wasn't clear that this set does not include the CLI-221 Black cartridge, which is needed for the Mx860 model and probably others. Seems odd that they would include 4 out of 5 cartridges required for the printer.

Great product - not quite as much of a bargain as Sophia - but still cheaper than the name brand and equally as good. If you do a lot of printing this is the product to buy.

Too many print failures
By B. Gidley
It bought this machine because it has two paper trays and the ink usage was supposed to be reasonable. This machine is beautiful to look at-not so great when it comes to work. I bought this to replace my Canon Pixma that finally died after several years. This is for home use and I bought it primarily to print both photos and plain paper at the same time: from Tray 2 plain paper documents, homework, and articles from the internet and with Tray 1 loaded with photo paper to print 4 x 6 photos wirelessly from my phone or Ipad. These photos previously rarely ever ended up getting printed so it was my hope that I would be printing out a lot of family photos finally.

The machine seems like it was cheaply made. Right out of the box some handle to hold the top open came off and I never could get it put back in. It set up wirelessly with the network but I did need some help for printing from my phone-printing from the Ipad was a easy. The photo quality was very poor-so much so that even though I was thrilled to print these photos-I would not hang them on the bulletin board. The paperwork states that the best photos will be with Brother paper although it isn't sold at the Staples store near me -so that is an extra hassle and I can't believe the photos would be THAT much better-they were bad. With regard to plain paper printing I kept having random printer failure-one minute I could print-the next minute the same document would fail. As it goes in life-these unexplained printer failures were always at the worst time and I need to be able to print with the printer. I did not have it longer enough to comment on the ink usage. I am sending it back to Brother.

Also- I want to quickly comment on the customer service which is life of the machine-which is great. However,I think that customer service is only as good as the people answering the phone or doing the online "Chat" for Brother and I have to say- I had two that didn't know the product and gave me completely different answers than the other two. Ugh!

First one was defective
By Bill W
Arrived as advertised from Amazon. After setup the paper would jam every time I tried to print. Called Brother support and after some trouble shooting steps they decided to replace it. I got the replacement in 1 day and returned the the defective unit at no cost to me. The replacement was everything I expected, wireless setup was a breeze, scan and printing works very well and takes up half the space of the Canon it replaced. Brother service and support was outstanding. Would have given it 5 stars, except for the bad experience at the beginning.

This is a great home/small office printer!
By Ray Harwood
I had an older Brother MFC printer that's over 6 years old which I was very pleased with, but was seeing some age. Then I saw an ad on TV for this printer, and a few things impressed me: AirPrint (there are 5 Apple iOS devices in the house, between iPhones and iPads), two trays (I do a lot of shipping via USPS Priority Mail, and print shipping labels on special label, stock), and the ability to print 11x17 paper.

Like the older printer, this printer scans directly to a folder on my PC, and from my Soda PDF program I can scan documents to PDF. I've faxed from the printer, and faxed from the PC. AirPrint seems to work flawlessly (I previously had a variety of configuration issues with a PC-based AirPrint capability). The touch-screen display is small but adequate. And the printer is very small/compact.

I highly recommend this if you're looking for a good multifunction device.

Very good service, poor item
By Davida Carr
I purchased this cartridge from Abacus 24-7 for my new printer (Pixma MX340). Unfortunately, the printer failed to recognize the new cartridge due to it being refilled and not brand-new. While I appreciated their suggestions on how to make the printer accept the new ink cartridge, it was difficult to get them to understand that the printer was COMPUTERIZED, and therefore I couldn't simply "ignore" the failure to recognize the cartridge. It might work better for older models, but mine was not buying it. Too bad, the pricing was very reasonable.

Great for a few days, then lost wireless set up and couldn't reconnect
By Paula N. Sutton
This was relatively easy to set up, right up to the time it lost the wireless set up. I went into the set up panel in the printer and entered a wrong pass word. I went into the setup panel again, which is very nice and easy to use (after retrieving the correct password), and it could no longer see any wireless networks, which I verified were working in the room with the printer. Yes, powered printer and router off and on in the correct order. It would search forever and not find anything, hang the printer (yes it has some processor and display power) and then turn itself off. HP Live chat found out I am largely a mac shop and said they didn't support macs, it was another email only service at HP. I told them the wireless router that it use to connect to and no longer did was NOT A MAC and mac was not the issue. Logic did now win the day with HP support. So I'll configure this wired into a switch, which is what they suggested. I'll keep you all posted, but wanted to let everyone know that if you get one of these, save all the packing (I did) because it may have to go back, and at least in my case the thing has been quite fragile. Oh, for the few days it worked, it was great; churned a bit before it started printing and makes a symphony of clunking sounds, but printing is quite fast.

Great multifunction postscript printer
By Audrey Nezer
I was looking for a decent all-in-one for my small design studio. This one fits the bill. The ink is the most affordable I've seen for a printer like this. Pages print quickly from both my Macpro and PC (which is an HP). I've use the HP ePrint feature to email pdfs to the printer which works well.

In order to find an inkjet with affordable ink that was also a postscript printer I had to give up a manual feed tray (for the few times I need to print on custom paper, it works for me). Also, when the printer is plugged into a wired network, It seems to lose it's wireless ability. I overcome this by using HP ePrint.

Most of the time, I'm using printouts internally, but they would be fine for client meetings as well. The printer was easy to set up and I'm still using the factory-installed ink cartridges that came with it.

Fair to Good All In One Printer And Scanner
By Peter Suslock
Having been a die hard HP fan of their printers for decades, I was hesitant to buy this printer when I recently bought a new Dell laptop. I'm glad I gave this machine a shot it performs beautifully albeit a few minor disappointments.

Like anything else, the choice of a printer should reflect your needs and applications for use. In this respect the V525 is wonderful. It connects immediately to your wireless network without any hassle what so ever. The scanner is a welcome addition and any problems regarding Twain issues which often cause conflicts have been resolved by Dell.

For daily use the printer is fast, crisp and the quality superb.

Compared to my HP Photosmart 8250 the Dell falls short in photographic quality on a side by side comparison of the same images. This however, is only apparent when printing in the highest DPI. I would say the HP produces a crisper and richer image by 30%.

All other settings are apples to apples.

HP Photosmart technology is wonderful and if you use the settings at full DPI along with the Photosmart filters i.e.: Lighting, Clarity, Smoothing, etc the images produced are breathtaking. However,if you don't need to print on the highest resolution or simply go that route once in a while then it would pretty much be a non issue.

Dell also has dedicated 24/7 support for their printers via net based and #800. I've only needed to call them once and the support was excellent. The ink cartridges are true to color and now available at any office store but they're VERY expensive. You'll find the best prices right here on Amazon.

Set up is a breeze, it's well designed with a compact footprint so it'll fit most anyplace. Bottom line - An excellent all in one machine at a fair price.

Most useless piece of junk I've ever purchased
By Reid Wahl
This is without a doubt the greatest waste of my money thus far in my life. The "printer" barely prints--about 50% of the time, I can avoid the "local communication failure" in which this stupid device doesn't realize it's connected to my computer one foot away via USB cable. This brings me to the next point. "All-in-one," you say, Dell? "No," say I. I haven't tried to make a copy with this "thing," but I've tried to scan many times. My efforts have been to no avail. The communication failure that occurs about 50% of the time on print jobs occurs 100% of the time on scan jobs. I've tried every setting on the printer and the computer, as well as browsing troubleshooting forums and guides. It simply will not scan a one-page, black-and-white document and transfer it to my computer a cable's length away.

Please save yourselves $100. Don't waste your money on this.
